Working Holiday Visas (WHV) or the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) give eligible candidates the opportunity to travel abroad and explore a country for an extended period and take incidental work to fund their stay. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a country on a deeper level – not only seeing the sights but getting to know locals, learning about work and society, and finding out about the culture or language. For many it can be one of the most wonderful and memorable times of their lives. It’s a chance to grow and gain independence.
Important information
It’s important to inform yourself of specific requirements before you apply. Requirements differ from country to country so it’s important to do your research for your specific country of interest. Each country listed below has a link to find the information you need to qualify for a work and holiday visa.
Generally speaking, applicants are expected to:
- have a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned date of return
- have a return ticket, or sufficient funds to purchase a return ticket
- have sufficient funds for the initial period of stay
- show proof of adequate health insurance
- have good health or submit a medical certificate showing you do not suffer from a disease that may endanger public health
- meet character requirements and not have been convicted of a crime
- pay a visa fee. The applicant isn’t entitled to a refund if the visa is rejected or cancelled
- not be accompanied by dependants. For example, a spouse or children
